Chapter twenty-one
Santino
âI think I might have to weigh myself due to all the exercise Iâve been getting. The shower sex had to burn off more calories than I average while running on the treadmill.â
âYou have a way with words and are so good for my ego.â I rolled over, taking Jade with me. I loved how her body felt on top of mine after weâd fucked for hours. God, sheâs insatiable, but Iâm not complaining when Iâm the man who gets to enjoy all of her.
She sighed contently and balanced her chin on her hands. âAnother thing I love about you is when your green eyes gaze into mine. You probably donât realize youâre doing it, but itâs amazing. So, my Angel, when you look at me now, I hope you see someone beyond the arrogant man who told you that he would own you on the night we met.â
âYou didnât exactly say it that way,â
âIt was pretty close, and no matter how the warning came across, I meant every word. What I donât have, I usually end up getting. Itâs usually always directed toward business, but you are much more than an acquisition. Let me enlighten you if you havenât figured it out already. Itâs not me who owns you; itâs you, Angel, who owns me. Have you given my note any consideration?â
âItâs all I can think about, yet every time I try to talk to you about it, you have a habit of stopping me. Why do you do that?â
âMaybe Iâm afraid of your answer?â
âI thought men like you arenât afraid of anything,â
âYou are the exception. Or, maybe Iâm afraid of what I will do if I disagree with your answer.â
âSince we met, itâs been about risk and the push and pull between us. Why stop now?â
âExactly, so will you stay? All you have to do is say the words, and once you do, Iâll take care of the rest.â Her answer was teetering on the precipice of what she wanted and what frightened her most. I was hungry for the words, craving them as if my life depended on them, and in a way, it does. I vowed that I would not tie myself to the life my father carved out for me. Sheâs the one who will free me from all of it. I was distracted with thoughts running wild that I didnât realize she had fallen asleep. Her arms relaxed at my sides, with her cheek nestled under my chin. Damn, she was precious in so many ways. How was it possible that Iâd found her?
âAngel,â I whispered as quietly as I could manage so I wouldnât startle her. She made no signs of waking up until I moved us both placing her down on the mattress. Her eyelids flickered slightly until she slowly opened them, and once they were fully open, she smiled. âYou scared me, Angel,â
âIâm sorry, I must have been more tired than I realized. You have that effect on me if you havenât noticed.
