The Chinese invented paper and many uses for it. These uses included paper money and playing cards. Can you imagine our lives without those two things? It sure is hard to do.

Paper was invented in China during the Han Dynasty by Cai Lun around AD 105. This inventor pounded ingredients like bamboo, hemp, rags, fishing nets, and mulberry tree bark into a pulp. Then he mixed it in water and spread it flat. The use of paper spread quickly through the empire, and so began people’s love of paper.
