Duct Tape Cleavage

The Miners’ and Trappers’ Ball was the event of the season. People stood in line for hours, freezing their buns off, to capture a ticket to this costume event in February.

Fur Rendezvous is Alaska’s version of Mardi Gras. It’s a two week event in February, answering to a very long winter and cabin fever, and heralding the Iditarod Sled Dog Race. The Miner’s and Trapper’s Ball was held in a huge business warehouse with concrete floors, and port-a-potties. Usually, about 2,000 people attended. Two bands, one at each end of the facility, kept people moving in a great oval promenade. This celebration came about with deep roots in winter restlessness. It was one of those events where it was the law that one must buy a Rondy Button, or the Rondy Police would take you to jail. One of those carts with bars on it. Not a normal jail, but a convincing way to sell buttons.
