This is a negative form of emotion to emotion telepathy, but there are positive forms, as well. What happens between a fine actress or singer and her audience is also emotional telepathy:

When an … actress is performing before an audience, the emotional field of the actor seems to glow and expand and extend outward until it includes the whole audience. The emotional fields of the audience blend with the vastly extended field of the performer, and what might be called a unified emotional field results for the duration of the performance.

When the performance is over, the clapping of the audience breaks the unified field, and each person is seen by the psychic as again functioning within her own separated emotional field. If the performer is not able to achieve this unified field, she does not reach her audience, and they will say the performance was mediocre or poor. All good performers are able to do this.5
