Chapter 10
Brett
There was nothing special about December thirty-first on an American military base in Afghanistan. There was no drinking, no girls in sexy dresses, only the same old DVDs weâd watched for months.
Happy Fucking New Year!
Sometimes, boredom was as likely to kill me as a bullet. After watching X2: X-Men United and a handful of other movies for the billionth-time, I checked my watch, wondering if her flowers had been delivered. I pictured Laurenâs beautiful smile and chocolate-brown eyes turning soft and warm when she read the poem I wrote.
Cursing the miles between us, I tossed and turned before finally falling into a troubled sleep. I dreamt she was at a party, sexy and gorgeous like always, in something slinky and low-cut, but she was surrounded by horny fuckers vying for her attention this time. I woke up in a sweat, with no way to keep them from taking what was mine.
I was early to the internet tent that first day of the new year. It was 0545 hours, and for all I knew, she was still out partying in New York. Sheâd been excited about plans with Dawn to meet up with other friends for a combination birthday and New Yearâs party. I didnât know her friends, which I hated, but at least she wasnât out there alone. Still, I knew the shit some scumbags would do to take advantage of a girl as hot as mine.
Impatiently, I waited for my inbox to upload, hoping sheâd written me before going out. My reward was there, and after reading the subject line, I checked around to see who else was nearby. My girl had become very good at attaching photos to emails. Assured the coast was clear, I clicked.

SUBJ: Happy New Year, Baby! (for your eyes only)
Happy New Year, Baby!
Itâs already 2006 for you! Weâre in a time warp from another dimension until itâs New Yearâs in New York! I got home late from work and hurried to shower when the doorbell rang. You will never guess what was waiting for me on the other side of the door. The most amazing bouquet of roses EVER!!! So, imagine me kissing your handsome face all over. Of course, you being you and me being me, I get totally carried away and keep kissing you down your neck, across your chest and all points south!!! OMG, Brett, the roses are so beautiful your card was perfect. I love you, too, every minute of every day. I dream of the time we can be together. I need you and miss you so much.
I keep looking at my flowers and wanted to send you something special to say thanks and Happy New Year. Enjoy the photos and know itâs you with me tonight in my heart.
XOXOXO
Gotta run, Baby. Love you!
Lauren
âHoly shit, Lauren, I love you, but Iâm gonna to kill you,â I whispered, pressing firmly against my dick. Each click of my mouse revealed another scintillating photo, making my cock harder than a sledgehammer.
