David Blackwood didn’t have anything else enlightening to say. In particular, he couldn’t think of any business rivals of Kermit’s that would have gone after Chase. He gave his wife’s phone number to Susan; Kevin handed him a card and told him to call any time. Jon escorted him out, while Susan and Kevin looked for Max and Jill—who were gone. Kevin checked his phone and found a text from Jill.

On our way to pick up Bridget Cobb. She finally came home.

Susan replied, Outstanding. Are you bringing her here?

Yup.

Good. Jon and I will stay.

Kevin’s phone rang. He checked the screen and said, “It’s Kermit Blackwood.”

Jon said, “Better answer it.”

“Like I wouldn’t?” Kevin tapped the screen and said, “Hello, Mr. Blackwood.”

“Hello, Kevin. We’ve hired a cleaning company, and they’re going to be at the house in about an hour. Is it possible for you to meet them there? I also have a list of items that Molly and the boys want from the house. I’ll text it to you.”

“The list would be helpful, thank you. And yes, I can meet the cleaning company at the house—which company is it?”

“They’re called Taking Care of Business.”

“Ah. Good. I’ve known the owner of the company for years. She’ll do a wonderful job.”

“Glad to hear it, because we’re going to put the house on the market as soon as we can. I’ll text you that list. Thank you.”

“You’re welcome, Mr. Blackwood.”

They said goodbye. Susan asked, “What’s up?”

“Violet Tatum and her crime scene cleaning crew are expected at Chase and Kara’s in an hour, and he wants me to meet them there.” His phone dinged with a text. “And he has a list of stuff that Molly wants.”

Jon grinned. “You’re his personal errand boy.”

Kevin shrugged. “If that’s what it takes to keep the man happy.”

Susan smirked. “Gee whiz. You’ll miss meeting Bridget.”

“Ha ha. I don’t care how much she’s grieving for Chase, she is not my client. What are you gonna do about Lucas Wade?”

Jon and Susan shared a glance. Susan said, “We should probably talk to Ethan Williams first. Then the other guy. Wade’s teammate. What was his name?”

Jon checked his phone. “Will Brady.”

“Yeah. Talk to Williams and Brady first, sound them out about both Blackwood and Wade. But that’ll have to wait until tomorrow.”

Kevin said, “I’ll call Ethan, if you want.”

Susan nodded. “Call him now. See if he’s busy tomorrow morning.”

Jon asked, “Does he teach during the summer?”

“I don’t think so.” Kevin opened his contact list, then tapped on Ethan’s name and the speaker button.

Ethan answered after only one ring. “Hey, Kevin.”

“Hey, Ethan. Hope I’m not interrupting anything.”

“Not at all. Scott and his quartet are practicing and I’m staying out of their way. What’s up?”

“Jon and Susan would like to hear more from you about Will Brady and Lucas Wade. Are you able to meet tomorrow morning?”

“Um—yeah. I have a dentist appointment in the afternoon, but morning is fine. What time?”

Susan held up ten fingers. Kevin said, “How about ten?”

“Perfect. Will you be with them?”

Jon and Susan both nodded.
