When we got back to our apartment, I pulled the mail out of the box and brought it in with me while James stayed in the front yard with the girls in the snow.

In the stack of mail was an envelope from Mary. I tore at the back tab and opened it. Inside was a beautiful card with a picture of Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens. My eyes stung with tears. She knew how much I loved visiting the historic Akron house and museum, along with the gardens and greenhouse. It was thoughtful of her to remember. I opened the card and read it out loud to myself.

Dear Sharon,

I miss you and James so much, but especially the girls. In a strange turn of events, my summer has opened up, and I can come and spend an extended amount of time with you if you’d like. I know James has taken on some seasonal work between school years, so I figured the timing might be perfect. Please give me an honest answer because I want my visit to be a help and not a hindrance. I’ll bring anything from here you might still be missing. I look forward to hearing from you.
