And then, the boy and I witnessed a hand extending from above, loading the bow unbeknownst to us. An arrow swiftly pierced one man's chest while another struck his hand, causing the two scrawny men to fall, their faces reflecting shock. Although these blows weren't fatal, they clearly conveyed something beyond mere surprise.

Qawasumi descended from the stairs with yet another arrow ready. "Zuhyo."

Her array of statistics materialized as she activated something on her device. White energy coalesced around her third arrow as the men lay frozen, likely sealing their fate. I made an attempt to stand. "Miss Qawasumi, you've done it—"

My gaze dropped to find an arrow embedded in my arm. At that moment, my mind went blank.

The first thing I remembered was a rush of cold water splashing over me, soaking my clothes as it trickled down my sleeves. I clutched the bed sheets as I struggled to open my eyes against the intrusive sunlight. I found myself in the quarters provided by the hostel. I had passed out and it was now the following morning.

"Rise and shine, dude."

I swiveled my head to see the young boy from the previous night leaning against the doorway, arms folded.

"You... What happened?" I winced, my arm wrapped in bandages. Qawasumi had shot me there. I touched my mouth and head, finding them seemingly unharmed. No blood, no scars, as if the wounds had never existed.

"Ah, well, you sort of passed out when she shot you. She used a Time Distortion Arrow. Take a look at your stats."

"My stats?... Tahblo."

"Now I understand." I stretched my legs, feeling tension and soreness. "I believe we haven't properly introduced ourselves. My name is Kaizenji Haruki."

"I'm Taqumi."

"Taqumi, why did you go to such lengths to save me?"

Taqumi pondered for a moment, his head tilting. Then he grinned, his eyes reflecting a mix of admiration and amusement. "Well, Kaizenji Haruki, you're not the only one who cares about Qawasumi, you know? We go way back, and when I saw you in trouble, I couldn't just stand by and watch."

I looked away. "I see... I'm sorry for everything I've put you through. I think I'll have to apologize to everyone, especially her. I've caused her so much pain... Miss Qawasumi probably doesn't want to see me anymore."

From yelling at her to her saving me from the brawl I incited, I was sure she had had enough of me and my actions. I had been indifferent to her feelings, giving her orders without considering her perspective. Was there anything redeeming about me?

Taqumi leaned against the wall, his expression softening. "That's quite an assumption. I don't know how long you've been with her, so I'll say this here.
