Alonso

Alonso leaves for Texas, accompanied by his mother;

he came back after fifteen years, so he could avenge his father.

Alonso came back from Texas wearing pistol and pistol belt:

“Why don’t you try to kill me, you worthless outsider scum.”

General Margarito had Alonso called

to Santiago’s saloon, so they could confer there.

“Mr. Mayor of the town, Chaguito sends you word

that Alonso Flores has killed General Margarito.”

After he had killed him, he placed his foot on his chest:

“This is how men should be killed, meeting them face to face.”

After he had killed him, he hid out in a remote place;

on Sundays he would ride down very calmly to the station.

An aunt of Alonso’s tells him, “Child, do not be so rash;

you have killed Margarito, but be careful of his brother.”

There Alonso answers her, “Aunt, do not be worried;

when I come down to the station, I am always well prepared.”

So Alonso did not leave, he did not leave until another day,

so as to give proof to Félix that he was not afraid of him.

Margarito is dead, Alonso is riding high:

“I killed you the fighting cock; nothing was left but his feathers.”

Margarito was brave with those who were afraid of him;

he paid with one life the fourteen he had taken.

On a Sunday morning, Alonso left for Texas:

“I knocked down the hive for you, but I’m leaving you the bees.

“So go to it now, you merchants, and take great pains in your work;

I have killed you Margarito, who took the money you made.”
