Chapter 6
During the few days it took for Tekokwa to recover his full strength, Kwaotli waited on him hand and foot, as if Tekokwa were the highest lord in a city. Kwaotli brought him a feast of fruits and nuts, turkey, and at one point even found cocoa beans and made hot chocolate for him. It was Tekokwaâs first time tasting the drink, and he understood why the nobles hoarded it for themselves.
âIf anybody in Yowalapan saw me with this, Iâd probably be whipped again,â Tekokwa joked, and received a stern look in response.
âThen itâs a good thing we arenât there!â Kwaotli then proceeded to pluck the makeshift cup out of Tekokwaâs hands and drink the rest of the chocolate.
It should have bothered Tekokwa, but it simply made him laugh.
They kissed every day now too. Tekokwa was still afraid of hurting Kwaotli, but the more forcefully Tekokwa handled him, the harder they both got. Bites, pinches, shoves: didnât matter how Tekokwa did it, Kwaotli would melt underneath his cruelty.
When he stopped to think about it, shame filled him. He tried gentle, once, but Kwaotli sensed what he was doing and got angry. âWe both like it like this! Why deny ourselves? Who is there to judge us?â
âOmetekwtli,â Tekokwa answered. âAnd if not Ometekwtli, then Teskaâatl.â
And Kwoatli broke away entirely. âOmetekwtli judges nobody, and if either of us cared about what Teskaâatl thought, we wouldnât be here now.â
Tekokwa didnât attempt to be gentle again.

They wandered back to their little shelter, slower this time. Tekokwa was surprised to see that it was in the exact same state as they had left it, but was also grateful that they wouldnât need to redo any of their work.
âI know we werenât here all that long,â Tekokwa said, âBut this feels like home.â
Kwaotli smiled brightly, his red-ringed eyes near glowing with delight. âYou know what we havenât done here yet?â
Oh yes. Tekokwa laughed, and then picked Kwaotli up with one swoop. His leg twinged lightly, but it held strong. Kwaotli shrieked in delight, and struggled half-heartedly against Tekokwaâs hold.
Tekokwa threw Kwaotli facedown onto their cot, and quickly pounced on top, using all of his weight to keep Kwaotli in place. Kwaotli moaned in response, and he wriggled his hips upwards to grind against Tekokwaâs growing erection.
âYou are such a brat,â Tekokwa growled. âYou tease me all the time, demanding all of my attention.â He kept his one hand firmly around Kwaotliâs wrists, while he used his other to rake his nails down Kwaotliâs back.
âNot my fault,â Kwaotli responded between gasps. âI just... I want you... all the time...â And he snapped his hip upwards, somehow dislodging Tekokwa entirely.
They tussled, wrestling and trying to get the upper hand. Their sparse clothes were discarded, and the wrestling was forgotten in favor of simply rubbing against each other. Then Kwaotli grinned in his manic way, and Tekokwa knew better than to let his guard down. He grappled for Kwaotliâs wrists, but found himself on his back, Kwaotli straddling his hips.
