"Okay, professor," he responds, smiling and nodding his head.

"Well, thanks to my father and his library. He met Achebe twice in the eighties and has all his published works."

"Our fathers will make great friends. I was 13 when my dad made me read 'An Image of Africa: Racism in Conrad's Heart of Darkness' by Achebe. I was trying to understand math and get the girls to like me, but he was like, This is more important."

"They definitely will. My father took his adoration of Achebe to another level by naming me after him."

"Your name is Achebe?"

"Yes"

"Wow. I reckon that must open a lot of doors?"

"Not really, I'm also a writer. I wrote a novel five years ago and I currently write for an online feminist magazine. My writings have always been pitched against Chinua Achebe's. Some people think I'm related to him, and that's always a reference point in their critique."

"That's tough, but you have your own voice and no one can take that away from you."

"Tell that to the literary critics I have encountered. The name Achebe unleashes their inner magnifying glass. It's ironic because my name inspired me to write my first novel, but the comparison that followed afterwards has impeded me from writing another. One of the reasons I moved here is to find a way to break from that mental rut."

"I'd love to read one of your articles if you don't mind."

You pause, take a sip of malt, and say, "I don't do this often, but I could read my latest piece for you."

"I'm grateful," he responds.
