INSTRUCTIONS:

FOR THE BLOOD

This recipe will yield about 4½ ounces of blood. Blood from gushing wounds tends to flow pretty fast, though. Are you sure you have enough? When in doubt, make a double batch.

1. Fill the bowl with ½ cup of light corn syrup.

2. Pour 2 tablespoons of red food coloring into the bowl. See image

3. Pour a teaspoon of cocoa powder into the bowl and mix the ingredients thoroughly. See images b and

4. Pour the blood into the 6-ounce bottle and save for later. See image

This blood is totally edible!

FOR THE SKIN

1. Add a drop of red food coloring to the bowl, pour in the hot water, and mix. Then add the two packets of gelatin and stir vigorously for 3 minutes and let sit for 10 minutes. See images and

2. Decide which arm will sport the wound. If you’re doing this to your kid’s arm, it’s their call. If you’re working on yourself, it will be easier if you choose your less-dominant side, i.e., your left arm if you’re right-handed. Rub a little cornstarch (a moderate heap covering half a Popsicle stick) on your arm. This will help dry it out a bit so the fake skin will stick better. See image
