You don’t have to be a gregarious extrovert to be good at selling. I know this to be true because I’m a shy introvert and I can sell. However, if my meandering experiences aren’t evidence enough, the Wharton Business School professor Adam Grant found that of all the personality types, it’s actually ambiverts – those who are equal parts introvert and extrovert – who make the best salespeople.

Use your personality traits to your advantage. If you’re shy, don’t try to become someone you’re not. Instead adapt your sales techniques to suit your personality. Ask a lot of questions and get the other person to do most of the talking. Repeat back to them what they’re saying so they feel listened to and will engage further with you.
