I have found that anger is a covering for despair. Are you saying that I should just feel the despair?

Yes, stop running from it. Dive into the core of it. You know you have not surrendered when despair lasts in duration. You may spend a night in despair, or a day in despair, but the moment the struggle against despair stops, where is despair? It is the struggle with despair or the acting out of despair that gives despair its life. Your imagination is what keeps the struggle going.

Mental wards are filled with people who are struggling against emotions, either suppressing emotions or dramatizing emotions. The psychotic experience is of fragmentation, which is very different from dissolution. In psychosis, the ego is experienced as being fragmented into multiple parts. I am not recommending fragmentation! I am speaking about the possibility of the dissolution of the false I. Ego means false I.

At the gate of despair, despair appears endless, and all neurotic impulses arise to avoid being consumed by it. The psychotic impulse is to act out despair in some way such as suicide.

Is despair limitless?

The discovery is that the despair is, at most, limited. If you dive into the core of despair, you discover no despair at all. What is limitless is peace, silence, joy. If you dive into peace, it doesn’t dissolve. Isn’t that amazing? Peace does not dissolve. Your idea of who you are dissolves, and you are revealed as peace. You are silence, you are joy, and you are fathomless, endless, limitlessness.

It is no good just to hear me say it, though. This is something you must directly experience for yourself.
