any people have asked me
if they can use their journals for
Divine guidance-simply by writing
in
them,
but
without
doing
channeled writing.
Now, journal writing is a terrific
tool for getting in touch with
yourself, and knowing what you
think; it's a superb method of
clearing your head and clarifying
your wants and needs. I myself have
kept a journal since third grade, and
almost all of the writers I know
keep journalsthere's nothing that
feels as good as getting your inner
thoughts down on paper! However,
writing in your journal is not the
same as receiving Divine guidance
through channeling or channeled
writing.
Journal writing is more similar to
prayer, in which you ask the Divine,
but you do not receive guidance in
the same direct way. In fact, you
could think of journal writing as
praying on paper.
Is this a good thing? Absolutely!
Just remember that journal writing
on its own won't give you the same
type of guidance that channeling or
channeled
writing
does. It's a
terrific option, a powerful tool,
another trick up your spiritual
sleeve-but it's not exactly the same
thing.
However (and this is important),
writing in your journal takes quite a
bit less effort than channeling or
channeled writing, and some days,
well, that's all you've got. You don't
read War and Peace every night, do
you? Of course you don't. Some
days all you can manage is an
episode of Sponge Bob Square
Pants.
Am I comparing your journal
writing to Sponge Bob? Of course
not!
Some days, in fact many days,
journal writing is much easier on
the mind and heart than the intensity
of channeling, and that's just fine. If
you feel like writing in your journal,
and this is an enjoyable practice for
you, please do so, as often as you
like!
Just don't expect it to provide you
with the same type of guidance as
the direct, two-way connection of
channeling or channeled writing.
That clarified, let's talk about some
of the best ways you can use your
journal for spiritual growth.
Most of you use your journal to
record your impressions. This may
t a k e the
form
of
a
simple
chronology of your day's events,
writing down what's happened over
the last few weeks, and so forth.
You write what happened, who was
there, how it made you feel, what
you learned. It's a way of analyzing
where you are right now, at this
particular point on your life's path.
How can you expand this practice,
and get more out of it? First, by
paying attention to the tone of what
you are writing. If you find you are
mostly complaining, blaming others,
everything is going wrong all the
time, you're in a rut and so forth, dig
a little deeper when you write.
If you're writing a stream-of-
consciousness spewing, trying to get
it all out on paper, and you find
your journal entries are angry,
miserable, depressed-it's time to
take a look at what's going on.
If you are in a rut, have bad
relationships, have money issues,
a r e unhappy, are unhealthy, are
overweight, drink too much, take
t o o many pills, are ill, can't stop
gambling, hate your job, whatever
your issue is at this moment in time,
it's time to stop writing about how
miserable you are, and start praying
for help.
And you can use your journal ... to
pray on paper.
Those ancient scribes who copied
prayers into thousand-page tomes
had their heads filled with God all
day long. This in itself was their
meditation; as they wrote each word
of scripture, the meaning of each
word filled their bodies and souls
like a mantra.
