Chapter Six
Aspel
âYah gunna need some clothes!â Cozza points me to the back of his ship. âThereâs a suit in there, geddit onya.â
I am grateful for clothing. I am still wet with Isuâs seed, but Isu himself is already further away than I can comprehend. I feel an awful tearing sensation, as if I am being pulled apart all the way down deep in my soul.
Cozza gives me a wink and offers me what he describes as a âbeer.â I am safe, but I donât feel any relief. I feel deep misery of a kind Iâve never experienced before. Itâs like grief and guilt and despair all wrapped up in one heavy lump that sits in my stomach and weighs me down.
Cozza sees my expression and grins at me. âDonât worry about it. Theyâre used to the wyrm down there. Weâll swing by in a year or two and theyâll have mostly dug themselves out again.â
But I do worry. More than worry, I miss Isu. Maybe I shouldnât. He held me prisoner. He punished me. But he also gave me pleasure and he tended to me in the way I needed to be tended to.
Cozza is a human male. He is who I should be attracted to, but I canât muster a spark of interest. I mated with Isu. I belong to him. I want him.
âHavva beer,â Cozza says as I start to weep, pushing the cool metallic cylinder into my hand. âYouâll feel betta in no time.â
I try sipping from the can. Whatever is inside tastes foul. I spit it out immediately.
âEh, whatâs that about?â
âI donât like it.â
âNo reason to waste good beer!â
I quickly learn that Cozza is preoccupied with beer in a way most people are with oxygen. Over the next hours, he has six beers, and with every one his speech becomes more slurred, his concentration more erratic, and his head bowed until he is fast asleep at the controls.
Fortunately for me, the ship seems to know what it is doing without him. The ship swings itself through space, around into orbit around an asteroid that is pulsing with glowing many colored lights. The closer we get, the brighter they become. I can see buildings bristling all over the planet, tall and pulsing with light and life. We descend among them and dock at a bay full of ships just like Cozzaâs.
I am at a loss until someone comes to my rescue. The plastic lid of this ship box opens right up and a woman jumps in through the open cockpit. She has black hair, brown eyes, and a broad smile. She seems happy to see me, even though she doesnât know me, which I find strange.
âHowzit!â
It takes me entirely too long to realize that she is asking me how I am.
She grabs Cozza by the hair and lifts his face from the dashboard, only to let him slump back down and look at me with an incredulous grin on her face.
âCrikey! Whaddave you done to him?â She smiles broadly.
