Rejuvenation

Larry’s eyes snapped open, immediately drawn to the haunting glow of the moon in the nighttime sky. A surge of panic gripped him as he tried to sit up, only to realize he was nude and tightly bound to the ground, his arms and legs outstretched and tied to stakes. As he surveyed his surroundings, he observed several lanterns hanging from nearby tree branches, casting flickering shadows that danced eerily in the darkness. His gaze then traveled to three exhumed graves, and next to each mound of dirt sat a casket, two closed, one open. The closed caskets appeared old, rusted, and stained with earth, bearing the weight of ages past. In stark contrast, the open casket looked disturbingly new, as if it had recently welcomed a macabre addition to its unsettling contents.

Ben, returning to his normal appearance, emerged from the darkness. “Hey, pervert. About time you awoke.”

Gripped by a wave of terror and confusion, Larry convulsed against his restraints. “What the fuck, man!?! Why am I tied up!?!”

Ben retrieved one of the lanterns hanging in a tree and illuminated a tombstone next to the open casket. “Do you recognize this grave?”

“You better untie me, dude, before you get in more trouble!”

“I’m not asking you again.”

Larry glanced at the engraving etched into the tombstone, observing the name Martha Ann Bennet, born in 1929, died in 2023. “Yeah. It’s Martha, from the nursing home.” He glanced at the open coffin. “I can’t believe you dug her up. Are you some kind of sicko?”

“Ha! That’s the pot callin’ the kettle black.” He moved the lantern over to the next tombstone. “And this is her husband Harold, he died in 1994 from a heart attack, and the man you portrayed to be while you raped Martha.”

“I don’t know what the fuck you are talkin’ about! I didn’t rape anyone!”

Ben illuminated the third tombstone. “And this is their daughter Rose. She died in a car crash in 1971. The poor girl was only sixteen years old.”

“Why are you showing me this?” Suddenly, an ominous sensation seized Larry. As he shifted his gaze, he beheld Martha, Doris, and Betty standing beside him. Their skin wore a pallid gray hue, stripped of life and drained of vitality. Their bodies stood frozen, as if caressed by the hand of death, and their eyes, hollow and glazed, bore a disquieting yellowish tint, enveloping the atmosphere in an eerie and malevolent aura. Betty, with an unsettling calmness, tenderly cradled their premature child, adding a macabre touch to the haunting scene.

Larry cast a troubled glance at Ben, his eyes betraying a mix of fear and uncertainty. “This can’t be real! I know y’all are just trying to scare me!”

“In these hallowed grounds lies a realm usually unseen by mortal eyes. A place where the virtuous find retribution, and the wicked endure suffering.”

“What the fuck are you talkin’ about, you crazy bastard?”

Ben slowly moved his hand across the two closed caskets. “Rise.”

Suddenly, the coffins began shaking, and light along with a cloud of smoke ominously escaped from around the lids.
