Magickal Herbs

Herbs were used for healing and Magick long before they were used as seasonings for food. They were used in potions, incenses, and amulets to ward off evil, attract prosperity, protect children and women in labor, and to heal illnesses.

ALOE

For beauty, protection, success, and peace. Aloe has always been well known for its healing qualities. From the plant or in gel form it is often used on burns and can relieve poison ivy rash.

AMARANTH (Cockscomb)

It is said to repair a broken heart.

ANGELICA ROOT (Archangelica-Angelica)

For protection and also exorcism.

This plant builds female and creative energy, bringing inspiration and helping new ideas to grow and build a foundation. Grow angelica in the garden for protection. Carry the root with you as an amulet. Burn the dried leaves in exorcism rituals. An aromatic herb, it is sometimes used to flavor liquor.

ANISE

For protection, purification, awareness, joy.

Anise is also often used for treating coughs, bronchitis and a stuffy nose, and is a good breath freshener. If kept by the bed it is said to prevent bad dreams. It is also a digestive aid and can relieve an upset stomach and flatulence when taken as a tea. A good general cleansing bath is made with a handful of anise seeds and a few bay leaves.

BASIL

For protection, love, wealth (if carried in your wallet), healing relationships, courage, fertility, and exorcism.

It is good as a tea for calming the nerves, settling the stomach, and easing cramps. It is also said to be good for the bladder. Can be used as an ingredient in a Purification bath sachet and can be added to love sachets and incenses.

BAY

For wisdom, protection, and psychic powers.

A wonderful all-purpose herb but DO NOT TAKE BAY LEAVES INTERNALLY. This herb is sacred to Apollo, god of healing, poetry, music, light, prophecy, and surprisingly, plague. Can be used as a poultice on the chest for bronchitis and chest colds.

CARAWAY

For protection, Passion.

Add caraway seeds to love sachets and charms to attract a lover in the more physical aspect. It is also a mild stimulant for digestion.

CARDAMOM

A stimulant to the mind and it warms the body.

This herb is considered to be an aphrodisiac and is frequently found in love charms, but it is also quite effective in magickal protection, to uplift the spirit, and calm the nerves.

CATNIP

Good for cat magic, familiars, joy, friendship, and love.

Its flowers and leaves have often been used to treat colds and insomnia. It lowers fevers, dries up post-nasal drip, gets rid of bad headaches and relieves sore aching bones due to colds and flu, when taken in tea form, 2-3 times daily. As incense, it may be used to consecrate Magickal tools.

CHAMOMILE

Good in meditation incense, also used for centering, and peace. Sprinkle chamomile in your home for protection, healing, and drawing money.

Is an excellent herb both internally and externally for calming. As a tea, made of 2 teaspoons of the herb steeped for 5 minutes in a cup of boiling water, it is a gentle sleep inducer and the herb makes a great addition to a dream pillow.
