If you find yourself in the fertile field of resistance while working through this Key, this might be a good time to take another look at chapter 3 and ask yourself which of the three building blocks of transformation (Returning to This Very Moment, Leveraging Adversity, Staying the Course) would be helpful to you at this stage of the process.

ON RESOURCES…

“Thinking small” can take the form of overlooking or minimizing the resources available to us. We may think of resources as synonymous with money, but sometimes what’s most needed to reach your livelihood-related goal is something else—more of your time and creativity, or perhaps the support of friends and family. Our life experiences, skills, time, and perhaps most importantly, our community, are all part of our resources (more on that in Key 6, Build a Circle of Allies and Ask for Help). Key 5’s call to think big invites us to think along a whole spectrum of resources, not just the financial kind.

Author of The Soul of Money and activist Lynne Twist is the very definition of a visionary; her perspective can enrich our view of “resources.” For more than forty years, she has nurtured her vision of alleviating global poverty and hunger in tandem with supporting social justice and environmental sustainability. She cofounded the Pachamama Alliance to empower indigenous people of the Amazon rainforest to preserve their lands and culture, and also to educate and inspire people everywhere to bring forth a thriving, just, and sustainable world.

Through Lynne’s teaching and writing, she helps people from all walks of life transform their relationship to money and other kinds of resources. One of Lynne’s greatest teachings is that we have the capacity to shift our mind-set from scarcity to sufficiency:

When we turn our love and attention away from what we think we need to what we already have—financially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually—and nourish it, express it, and most importantly, share it, experiences of profound prosperity, wholeness, and sufficiency flood our lives.16
