Time of Our Lives

W e ditch the car at the San Mateo Bart station and ride the crowded train into San Francisco. It’s only a short walk from the Embarcadero to the Ferry building. While we trudge down the hill, Jax offers to buy me a coat, arguing it’s his fault that I’m cold because he didn’t consider the weather when he asked me to come with him on this last-minute trip.

I brush off the suggestion with a half sigh. I make up the excuse that I already have too many jackets in my closet and what would be the sense of adding another? It stops his banter, so I’m guessing he’s not satisfied with my answer. I know I look odd swallowed up in a man’s huge coat, but it feels cozy, like a continuous warm hug from him.
