Pause to Reflect
To what do you give most of your time? Be honest.
How have you seized the small quantities of time with your children that end up becoming quality? In what new ways might you do this?
What have been the biggest disrupters of your time with your children? How can you conquer them?
How can you incorporate boundaries and set priorities in your schedule to protect time to fully focus on your family?

Be Fully There
Key 5: Stay Involved with Your Kids
It was one of those warm Indiana days you cherish because you know summer has finally arrived. Even fifteen years later, I remember the baccalaureate service well because the master of ceremonies introduced the keynote speaker and his wife as “dedicated and involved parents, taking an active role in their children’s lives.”
Dedicated and involved. Those words rang in the ears of this young father. I want to be that kind of parent, I thought. I want someone to say that about me. At the time, Kristin and I had only one child, a one-year-old, and in that moment my mind focused on my baby girl. How desperately I wanted her to know how much I loved her and how committed I was to being involved in her life.
Dedicated and involved. Those words have motivated me for nearly fifteen years now. They’ve become a silent mantra I keep tucked away in the depths of my heart and mind as I work hard to relate to my children, to know them, and to be interested in them as they grow into adults. I don’t want to look back and say that I missed a moment because I was consumed with work or distracted by something superficial on Facebook or Instagram.
Involvement is a critical piece of parenting. I could write an entire book on this subject alone because I believe it’s an umbrella over every other aspect of influential parenting.
