28 Kreiter, ‘Evolution and William Blake’, p. 114. Kreiter sees particular significance in Blake's use of the term ‘conglobing’ but this is more likely to have been drawn from Milton than from an anatomical text. Its value for Blake is likely in its metaphorical yoking of the language of astronomical science with the imagery of anatomy.

29 Gilpin suggests that these objects may be intended to recall the kinds of unusual anatomical specimens and preparations that appeared in John Hunter's museum. See Gilpin, ‘Blake and the World's Body of Science’, p. 50. Many of the preparations originated as teaching aids used by William in his anatomy lessons.
