Chapter

Olive, her father, and Forest all ran up the stairs to Ryan’s bedroom.

“Calm down,” their dad told Ryan as they entered.

“Calm down? Calm down?” repeated Ryan, his voice rising. “There is a frog in my bed! Why is there a frog in my bed?”

Olive started to explain. “We wanted to show Dad the frog we found in the backyard, but then things kind of got out of control.”

“Well, obviously,” Ryan said snottily. “Forest needs to keep his ‘friends’ outside!”

“Because Ryan scared of frogs?” Forest asked innocently.

Olive began to laugh, but a stern look from her father stopped her.

“Some things don’t belong inside!” Ryan said angrily.

Forest looked around. “Uh … Where froggy?” he asked, his brows furrowed.

They all looked back at the bed, but the frog wasn’t there.

“Oh my gosh! It’s loose again!” Ryan exclaimed. “How am I supposed to sleep with a frog loose in the house?”

“Ryan, take it easy,” said his father. “I’m sure we’ll find it.”

An hour later, they hadn’t found the frog anywhere in the house. Olive’s dad was confident that the frog would turn up. In the kitchen, he and Olive surveyed the broken dishes and spilled food and started to clean it all up.

“I’m sorry about dinner,” Olive said softly.

“It’s okay,” said her father.

“Forest make dinner!” said Forest.

Before Olive or her father could protest, Forest ran outside. He returned with a colorful collection of items. Olive recognized some of them, like the red berries that grew on the bush in the backyard. But she was a bit suspicious of what looked like a leaf sandwich with brown stuff in the middle.
