7. Billy

I came back to the ranch, hoping to find Dana somewhere nearby, but she wasn't here. I didn't know why I thought it was going to be different this time. I was so silly. Here I was thinking that she would be back after what happened last time.

Her father was so overprotective he almost pointed his shotgun at me. If he had done that, I didn't know what would have happened. It wouldn't be the first time that someone pointed a shotgun at me, but it would be the first time that someone did it without consequences.

I had faced worse, no denying it. I had been in situations that I didn't even want to think about, didn't want to remember. There had been occasions when I almost died, and I didn't want to remember those. Not right now, anyway.

I closed my eyes and took in the surrounding breeze. It was a beautiful sunny morning and I should be riding on Lille, enjoying the scenery and everything that came with it, but I was actually here, near the ranch, hoping to find Dana somewhere and coming to the same conclusion I came before so many times.

She left a long time ago and she didn't think about coming back here. Just spending the little time that she spent here was enough to make her hate this place. I wished I could have shown her that there was so much she could see, so much she could experience, and so much she could learn about it.

But now, that was all in the past, and I was again wasting my time here.

I shook my head, tossing my cigarette onto the dirt. There wasn't even any movement in the ranch. It didn't look abandoned, but it looked as though Dana's father hadn't been here in a while.

Did something happen? I had no idea. All I knew was that I didn't have anything to do with it.

Revving up Lille's engine, I was going to ride back home when something caught the attention of my ears, something that shouldn't even be happening. There was no way that I heard Dana's voice... or was there? I didn't know anymore at this point.

I turned my head to see where the voice came from and, as if by some miracle, there she was. Dana. For a moment, I thought I was hallucinating. There was really no way she could be back, and yet, my eyes were telling me otherwise. Not only that, they were telling me that she was running toward me. Dana was desperate to talk to me again after these two months of being away from here.

Also, there was one more thing that they were telling me and it was that she was concerned about something. I could see the concern etched on her face, and my heart fluttered. If she was so worried about something, then I had to do something about it. I felt protective of her. There was no reason for me to feel that way, considering that we didn't know much about each other, but I still felt that.
