Cancer Rising
Positive Traits: Genuinely loves others, compassionately understands othersâ suffering, willing to do what it takes to make others feel secure
Negative Traits: Overly sensitive to the point that people feel they are walking on eggshells, bursts into tears a lot, moody, overprotective
What They Most Dislike: Cruel words and unfeeling people
Cancer is a water sign ruled by the moon. This produces an ultrasensitive and very emotional person. No matter what their sun and moon sign are, those with a Cancer rising will present as a person easily roused to tears, who can be moody and changeable and difficult to understand because of their fluctuating inner feelings, but who is caring and thoughtful.
Cancer risings are not afraid to show empathy for others. For the unemotional, detached signs, this can be a real turnoff, but they wonât care. They like being compassionate and caring toward others; they like being a good listener; they like being a genuinely lovely person who offers sympathy and understanding when other people are in crisis or are suffering. They really care about othersâor at least thatâs what they portray with this rising sign. They seem receptive and perceptive to others, so even if they have a tough sun and moon, they will come across as sympathetic and understanding, willing to be anyoneâs shoulder to cry on. Having this rising sign bestows empathy on even the hardest of hearts!
Cancerians know that when people are at their lowest ebb in life it is important to be able to talk about their problems with someone who can relate to them. Being an empathic water sign, Cancer allows people to sob and moan and complain that life isnât fair, and they do this without telling them to get a life (fire signs), that things will sort themselves out in due time (earth signs), or hastily leaving the room (air signs). With a Cancer rising, others know they can open their hearts and that their secrets are safe. A Cancer friend/partner/family member offers empathy, compassion, and a genuine desire to help.
The reason Cancer rising is able to provide respite for others is because they understand pain and how horrible it is to suffer. Despite appearing strong and capable on the surface, underneath they are extremely vulnerable, which is why their symbol is the crab. Their soft underbelly is what makes them so receptive to pain: they are finely attuned to unkind words and actions from others. When people are cruel (whether real or imagined), Cancerians are shocked and deeply hurt, especially when they do so much for others.
Those with a Cancer rising seek emotional security. They require a safe haven from the pain in the world. Their oasis in an unfeeling world is usually their partner, close family, and their home, where they can retreat to lick their wounds when life has been particularly cruel. But they always emerge again, because Cancer is a cardinal sign and has the strength to rise from setbacks and face the world. They can hold down a
