C.F. / It is without a doubt the formation of the Caring Collaborative, a TTN New York City pilot project.

In 2006 I was diagnosed with cancer and had surgery to remove my thyroid gland. I suddenly lost my voice and couldn’t catch my breath—my vocal chords had become paralyzed as a side effect of the surgery. I had no energy and no appetite. I was seventy-three years old, living in an apartment in midtown Manhattan, where I have been for more than twenty years, and had no family nearby. My friends helped me by bringing home-cooked meals, grocery shopping, and coming along to my doctors’ appointments to take notes, be my advocate, and even help pick up prescriptions at the pharmacy. I would never have asked them to do all that, but they knew I needed help.
