Do everything that you can to get your cholesterol levels into the ideal range without taking a statin drug first. Follow the dietary recommendations above. Try either the combination of plant sterols and Sytrinol or niacin. Either method typically produces reductions in total cholesterol level of 50 to 75 mg/dL in patients with initial total cholesterol levels above 250 mg/dL within the first two weeks. When the initial cholesterol level is above 300 mg/dL, I would recommend taking both the combination of Sytrinol and plant sterols and 1,500 to 2,000 mg of niacin.
