This Women’s World Cup was also the beginning of an outstanding period for the German team. In the quarterfinals, Germany smashed Russia, 7–1. In the game between the United States and Norway, Wambach scored the game’s only goal on a header. Cat Reddick took a free kick and lobbed it in front of the goal where Wambach headed the ball. It bounced off the hand of the Norwegian goalkeeper and went into the lower right corner of the net. The United States knocked Norway out of the World Cup!
