Canon of Sunni Hadith Books

In madrasas, the capstone year consists of a review of at least major collections of hadith books, known as the six authentic books in the Sunni canon. The books of Bukhari and Muslim are studied with great care, while selected sections of the other books are studied during that year. Some madrasas may add few other books from which some chapters are read.

Sahih (Authentic Book) of al-Bukhari (d. 870)

Sahih (Authentic Book) of al-Muslim (d. 874)

Jamiʿ (Collection) of Tirmidhi (d. 892)

Sunan (Traditions) of Abu Dawud (d. 888)

Sunan (Traditions) of Nisaʾi (d. c. 914–15)
