The light and elegant border of golden vine leaves, flowers, berries, and acanthus leaves is typical of French book decorations of the mid to latter half of the 15th century. The arms of Charles du Maine are inscribed in the initial.

162. F.28r: Extraction of Aloe (100 x 60 mm). The miniature illustrates a method of extracting aloe, which, according to Platearius, was a tree growing in the “wood of Babylonia”. A grey-haired man uses a net to catch the branches of this miraculous plant that are floating down a river.
