Notice things that differentiate, not things that approximate.
Real Life Points in This Direction
Next time you are in a crowded restaurant, or a busy airport terminal, look at the faces of people you don't know. Every face will be new to you, a face you have never seen before. Yes, one woman might look somewhat like a person you work with, and some guy might be "that type," but you have never seen that exact face before. Every one is special and distinctive. And that only considers the uniqueness of their looks. Imagine if you got below the surface and got to know any of these people well. Looks are only the smallest implications of uniqueness.
There are billions of people on earth, and each one is unique. We know that being human is a special, miraculous thing. We are all inherently exceptional. So are our customers.
When you are open to sensing the uniqueness of another human being, and when you are ready to accept him fully for what he is and not for what he approximates, you will notice and appreciate the details that make this person matchless and inimitable.
