One keeps on saying, “Kind sir,”

while inside, he’s scheming to get you.

Their fathers were people so vile

I wouldn’t have them as sheepdogs!

They can’t even blush without smearing

their faces all over with rouge!

They seem to themselves to be giants—

to me they’re no bigger than crickets.

When I start to declaim a poem,

they gripe, as if it were Greek:

“Speak in a language we know!

This is just Ashkelon babble!”

Watch me tread them like mud,

for I have a tongue like a pitchfork.

Why am I ringing my bell?—

Your ears are just covered with foreskin!

Your necks are too scrawny to bear

the golden adornments I fashion.

Why don’t those idiots open

their mouths to the rain of my clouds;

my fragrance would drip down upon them—

the cinnamon scent of my clouds.
