Getting ready

Make sure you have the NAA ID, LUN ID, and the size of the LUN, which you have presented to the ESXi host. This is to make sure that you don't end up using an unintended LUN. Do a rescan on the HBAs for the ESXi to detect the presented LUN.

How to do it...

As mentioned before, we can create an VMFS datastore using the following two methods:

Using the New Datastore wizard

Using the ESXi CLI to create a new VMFS volume

Using the New Datastore wizard

The New Datastore wizard is available from the vSphere Web Clients' GUI. The following procedure will guide you through the steps required in achieving this:

Use the vSphere Web Client to connect to vCenter Server.

Navigate to Home | Storage.

With the data center object selected, navigate to Related Objects | Datastores:
