Looking down at my stained polo I cringe. The mixture of spilled milk and gravy alongside the dirt and grease all make for a Monet style picture perfect capture of the hell that is considered my afternoon. It's not only 8:50, but the entire restaurant looks like a disaster from the last wave of people who just left. However, the hot chocolate guy, whose name I found out is Trevor, is still at the bar watching Christmas movies.

I actually have come to like him. He's the only person I've dealt with today who has manners and is understanding to the situation at hand.

“And it looks like we can be expecting that snowstorm to blow right through the city tonight. The sooner you can get home and tuck yourselves in the better,” the weatherman on the television cheekily says.

Seriously? What? I don't have enough problems? You wanna add stuck in a blizzard to that list. It's Texas! We're not even supposed to see snow! It was almost eighty degrees last week!

With a sharp puff, I blow the fallen strands of hair out of my mocha colored face and shake my head at the catastrophe. Before I can say anything to Trevor about closing time, Tom rounds the corner, coat on and scarf around his neck.

“It's a mess in here,” he says matter of factly.

No shit? I thought it was sparklingly clean didn't you?

“Make sure you get it all cleaned before you lock up okay?”

Confused, I raise my eyebrows. “Excuse me?”

“Yeah. You're locking up tonight.”

“Where are you going now?”

“Home to my family. It's Christmas Eve for crying out loud.”

My mouth drops to make an argument but doesn't get the chance before he's waving and mumbling his goodbye to me out the front door.

Why the hell do I suddenly feel like Cinderella? You wanna hand me my broom and cue the singing mice?

“Unbelievable,” I sigh heavily and flop down in the seat beside Trevor.

With a soft smile he gives my thigh a pat. “Cheer up, Maxx. Something good is coming your way.”

“I like your spirit, but I don't have as much faith in what you just said as you do.”

He stands and smiles again. “I think you have more faith than you realize. After all...you did feed me a meal on Christmas Eve knowing I couldn't pay for it. Have the same faith that you put in me that something holly jolly is coming your way.”

All the Christmas movies this dude watched on our TV have clearly melted his brain.

“Have a good night, Maxx. And Merry Christmas.”

“Merry Christmas, Trevor,” I say back. “You're welcomed in the restaurant any time. Money or not.”

He gives me another blindly white smile and waves before exiting.

Is it weird to you that his teeth are like movie star white? How is it possible he doesn't have enough money to pay for food, but has better dental hygiene than me? Not to say my teeth are like yellow or something, but they damn sure don't twinkle in the moonlight.
