When the storm thrashed the city

I found neither cover nor pity

But brothers I found

And soon became bound

We cling to each other, we can’t get out.

“How about you make it up to me? Promise to stop by the bar before you leave Abstreuse and tell me how everything turned out.”

“Absolutely,” Kyra said, and meant it. She reached across the seat to give Carmen a quick hug before exiting the vehicle.

A shaft of light pierces black clouds

You call my name, clear and proud

And like heaven dropped manna

My lips drop the Hosanna

Hosanna, Hosanna, I can’t get out.

Her muscles groaned in complaint when she exited out of the car and to her feet. They loosened bit by bit as she walked, though.

A cool, somewhat refreshing wind blew the hair of her wig around, though not enough to cause concern.

She didn’t exactly “hop” the retaining wall when she reached it. It came closer to stepping over it in vague pain. Still, she made it without incident.

Glancing over her shoulder, she discerned Carmen still sitting there in the car. She couldn't see the woman in detail, what with Carmen's headlights lighting up the night. Kyra discerned her silhouette in the driver seat, though, staring in Kyra’s direction.

A few minutes later, Kyra turned a corner and Carmen disappeared from view. Heaving a deep breath, Kyra put her mind on the task at hand. She stepped forward purposefully, determined to bring her brother out of this depraved place for good. The wind pushed her along.
