This tablet from the Aria hotel in Las Vegas allows guests to adjust temperature and lighting, order room service, and enjoy thousands of digital publications at leisure.
However, the guest room of the future requires a complex computer network to function. âA guest could be connecting up to five devices at a time in their room,â said Jennifer Jones, president of J2 Hospitality Solutions, in an interview with Hospitality Technology magazine, and thatâs in addition to hotel technology such as energy management systems, voice-over internet protocol phone systems, internet protocol television, and wireless key locking systems. To ensure uninterrupted connectivity, hotels are investing in highly secure Ethernet internet connections. Some hotels even use Ethernet to power in-room devices such as TVs and minibars, which helps prevent accidents such as power short outs or guests or employees being electrically shocked.
CONVENIENCE THROUGH APPS
Innovative technology has expanded the traditional way people stay in hotels: check in, spend the night, check out in the morning. Created in 2010, the French app Dayuse allows users to access hotels during the daytime, usually allowing for check-in around 9 a.m. and check-out in the late afternoon. This schedule is particularly convenient for international travelers, who may be suffering from jet lag, or business guests, who might want a place to shower and rest before meetings, and allows early access to pools, gyms, spas, and meeting spaces at more than four thousand different hotels in twenty-four countries.
