Position three to five sports cones in a line on the driveway. Leave about 5 feet of space between each cone. Position yourself at one end of this line of cones and play the role of traffic director. Your child uses the cones as an obstacle course.

97 Sponge-Blob

Toss around giant, wet, squishy sponges for a blobby-good game on a hot summer day.

Materials

▸ Large bucket

▸ 2 giant sponges

▸ Sidewalk chalk

Setup

Fill the bucket with water and place the giant sponges inside. Use the chalk to draw a large (5 foot by 5 foot) square on the driveway or concrete patio.

Play

Standing a few feet away from the square, the first player takes a soaking-wet sponge from the bucket and tosses it into the square to create a blob design on the pavement. He quickly retrieves his sponge from the square, and the second player tosses his sponge, creating a second blob of water nearby. (Before you know it, a second game will be under way, in which you each guess what the shape resembles. It’s a little like looking at the clouds in the sky!)
