Chapter Fourteen

After seeing my sister, I was brought back to our chamber. Eva came in a short time later, and though I was clearly agitated, she gave me some time to calm down. It’s been more than an hour and I haven’t calmed down yet – truthfully, I don’t know that I will. Knowing what Wylto is doing to my sister enrages me beyond belief. And as I pace back and forth in this cell, I feel utterly powerless.

“Are you all right?” Eva finally asks.

I grab a mug from the table and with a loud snarl, hurl it at the wall. It hits with a metallic ping and bounces away, hits the floor, then rolls under Eva’s bunk.

“I’m going to take that as a no,” she remarks.

I know it is not Eva I am angry with. And I know I should not be lashing out at her. There is just so much anger roiling around within me that I do not know what to do with it. I pace to the windows that sit in the rear wall and look out over the grounds of Wylto’s manor.

I watch as beings from faraway planets stroll leisurely through the gardens like they do not have a care in the world, but all I can think of is the indignities my sister has endured. Balling up my fist, I drive it into the window with a loud growl. The window, fortified by sonic shielding, does not give. My body trembles with my fury.

But then Eva is there, standing behind me. I feel her body pressed to mine, her hands on my arms. She turns me around to face her and I see her eyes, filled with compassion. We have grown close over our time in captivity.

I had closed off my feelings for a long time, but now, I do feel again. I don’t know how it happened or where that turn took place. All I know is that it happened, and I feel for her in ways I have never felt for anybody before, and I feel as protective of her as I do Daca. And my heart is aching at the thought that something could harm her too.

She looks into my eyes, her full lips slightly parted, a curious expression on her face. And in that moment, with all of my anger churning inside me, I can only think of one outlet that might alleviate it. I lean down and press my mouth to hers, forcing my tongue past her lips.

Eva’s gasp is lost in my mouth as I swirl my tongue around hers, tasting her breath. She grips my forearms and kisses me back with just as much intensity. Her tongue lashes mine and I pull her to me, her small, delicate frame engulfed by my own.

I kiss her neck, nipping at her flesh, feeling all of the energy inside me churning wildly as my staff grows thick, rigid. All of my rage turns to a lust that burns strong, and as I pull back and look into her face, I can see the same smoldering passion in her eyes.
