CHAPTER 16

AREX

Arex had hated to leave his mate alone in the canteen. He wanted to spend every one of his breathing moments with the little human now that he’d found him, but if the news he had received were true, he really needed to speak with his family, for great danger could come upon them.

His face constricted to a frown, Arex marched towards the king’s meeting hall, the whole way there thinking about how lost his little mate had seemed when he had left him at the canteen.

Arex knew that he had acted distantly towards his mate, but he hadn’t wanted to worry the male. His little mate was already worried enough about living on Zata and the pregnancy, and if he knew that there were anti-human rebels on the planet who were causing problems, he would definitely not want to stay here with Arex.

And the thought of that was unbearable.

Arex had wanted nothing more than to hug his mate tightly against his chest and tell him that everything would be alright, that Arex would protect him, but that would only have caused the human to become even more alarmed, so he had decided against it.

The little human was his mate and he was pregnant with his child, which meant that Arex needed him to stay calm, without a worry in his life.

Reaching the entrance to the great meeting hall, the double doors of the room quietly slid open in front of him, recognizing Arex with an instant bio-scan.

Stepping inside the large room, Arex noticed that it was already occupied by the rest of his family members – his parents and his two older brothers – who all wore equally serious expressions on their faces.

“Greetings, Prince Arex,” his father spoke in their language. “How are you on this grave morning?”

The morning was indeed grave, if what he had heard about the rebels was true, but on the other hand, what his family did not yet know…

“This morning has obviously not turned out quite as we had hoped,” he said seriously. “But I do have good news too.”

Although this was not the time for idle chatter, he simply could not withhold his happiness from his family.

“Last night at the mating celebration, I have finally discovered my true mate,” he said, and despite the serious circumstances, a slight smile tugged at his lips as he thought of the tiny human that was his mate.

Several eyebrows rose in surprise at his revelation.

“That is, indeed, wonderful,” his mother said after a moment, the surprised expression on her face turning into a warm smile, making Arex almost gloat with his happiness.

What Arex hadn’t expected were his older brother, Xade’s, words however.

“You too?” the man asked him, his eyes wide in amazement.

Him too?

“Have you found yours, as well?” Arex asked now, and it was his turn to be surprised.

His brother’s expression turned into one of pure happiness and love.

“Yes,” he said, smiling. “I have, indeed.”

His brother’s utter happiness made something twist inside Arex. He seemed completely
