All the Chinese imperative sentences in Example 1 start with a verb, which translates into English sentences in a straightforward manner because of the structural correspondence. A sentence final particle (SFP) is added to the end of Example 1b to ‘soften’ the request. Example 1c includes two commands which would require a conjunction like and to join them in English.
In Chinese, it is possible to add an adverb in front of the verb in forming an imperative sentence. In English, it would be more acceptable to say Walk slowly! than *Slowly walk!
