TJ FELT AS if her thoughts had been on a roller coaster ride since waking up this morning after her erotic dream about the marshal and expecting to find him in her bed. Was it any wonder that when Leroy hadn’t acknowledged what had happened between them last night, she’d upped the ante by inviting him to her hotel room tonight? The dream had been so sexy and so real. It was as if she could still feel him on her skin, still taste him, still pick up his scent on her body.

After tonight, it would be real. She shivered with expectation and also a little concern. It was a gamble since she obviously was attracted to the man. She liked him maybe a little too much. She shook her head. He might not even show up. She swallowed, remembering the look she’d seen in his eyes. Oh, he’d show up. He wanted this as much as she did and that also concerned her. TJ followed. She had to know what was up with the fortune teller. At the booth, she waited for the woman to remove the closed sign. The moment it disappeared, TJ pushed the curtain aside and stepped in. Madam Zorna started to welcome her but stopped midsentence as she recognized her.

“Is something wrong?” TJ asked as she moved closer to look into the deep-set dark eyes.

Madam Zorna shook her head. “You just surprised me, that’s all. My booth isn’t open yet.”

“Really? You just removed your closed sign. I’d like a reading. Unless you have a problem with me or my money.” TJ pulled a twenty from her pocket and tossed it on the table. She could see the woman hesitate, but only for a moment.

With a slight nod, the fortune teller said, “Please have a seat.” She motioned to the chair in front of the small table as she busied herself straightening the caftan she wore, her bracelets tinkling softly.

TJ sat down in the folding chair in front of the table covered with a plush purple throw. She noticed the patterned rug on the
