CHAPTER 22

A NEW SKILL ROD

Tim quickly explained to Kayla what he expected the guild members were there about. As soon as he did, she instructed her employee who was carrying the message to go back and tell the guild members they would be escorted upstairs shortly. Tim arched his eyebrow at making them wait, but then she set her hands on both of his thighs.

“Can you do that for anyone?”

“I don’t know that I can do it at all. But if it works for one person, then I hope it will work for any sojourner,” Tim replied.

She smiled. “Try it on me first.”

He thought about it for a second before answering, “I can’t guarantee it will work. I’ve obviously never tried anything like this. What if it causes some injury to you?”

“And here we were getting along so well. Tim, if you are going to know one thing about me, and for that matter, most sojourner women, we don’t expect our male counterparts to save us any more than other men would expect it. We want to be treated as equals when it comes to danger and so on. I know that the non-sojourners have bizarre customs, but I’m every bit as powerful as any other level 17 sojourner.”

Tim nodded. “You mean if you decide to take the risk, that I shouldn’t stop you just because you are a woman.”

“Or because you have feelings for me. If it’s safe for one of them, then it’s safe for me.”

“Okay, you’re right. I have to use Iocusinte rules here. But what skill do I have that you would want?”

“I guess that depends on what the options are.”

With that in mind, Tim ran through his currently equipped skills and the skills that he had on his transferrable skills list.

“My mana mostly goes to waste, as I don’t have many skills that use it, except when I’m making poison bombs. So, what if you tried to teach me a spell? Life Tap might be ideal, since it’s both an offensive and a defensive measure.”

Tim pulled up the spell description. “Well, do you have at least 14 in Acuity? Because that is a requirement.”

She pouted and admitted hers was only 12. She had put a couple of points into it for the slight enhancement of perception, but she couldn’t justify more than that. So she proposed Nature’s Lesser Heal as her next choice. The same problem occurred, since she lacked the requisite Sagacity. Explosive Leap and Night’s Eye Domination were both out because they were unique and also required level 18.

Both Tim and Kayla started to become a little discouraged. Then she asked about Electric Arc, but of course, both his new spells had super high Acuity requirements. They finally settled on Master Assess. She kept her first skill slot for various information gathering skills. She would change them out based upon the mission she was going on. For example, presently, she had a skill, Detect Hidden Enemy, equipped. It was a common skill and not very broad, but it was very good at doing its namesake.
