Many collectors began collecting toys as kids. Some stop there, while others continue their collections, often refining exactly what it is that they’re after.

Toy collector Ricky Philips lives in Leicester, England. He’s been interested in toys for more than two decades and now has a collection of around 2,000 action figures. Even with all those toys, he told BBC News in December 2014: “Basically if I like it, I will collect it. I like the hunt, I like to sniff out rare and interesting things and I like to learn more about them.”

Love What You Collect

If Shopkins make you happy, by all means, collect them. They may never be highly sought-after, expensive collectibles – or they may be. Jordan Hembrough, host of the Travel Channel’s Toy Hunter, advised £5ood Morning America viewers in December 2012: “Never think of ‘what this will be worth down the line.’ Collect toys because you love them, not because you think you’re going to get rich selling them years from now.”
