Situation 12
You are entering the building where you work and find a man standing at the door. The door requires a pass to be placed over a pad before it opens and you use your pass to unlock the door. Without thinking you hold the door open for this person, who enters with you and thanks you. He looks smart and businesslike but you do not recognize him. This does not mean that he does not work in the building or should not be inside as many people work there and you do not know them all. You decide to ask to see his security pass but he refuses and tells you that he works in security and that he does not have to show his pass.
Rate the suggested responses as:
A. The most appropriate response
B. An acceptable response
C. A less than acceptable response
The suggested responses:
1 Ask his name and go to your office and call security to check if it is true that he works there.
2 Politely insist that he shows you his pass.
3 Offer to accompany him to the office of the security team so that they may confirm he works there.
4 Let the matter drop.
