In a subsequent interview, Armstrong said, “It was incredible. Of course, we had always known there was a possibility. The fact is, we were warned off. There was never any question then of a space station or a moon city.”

The interviewer asked Armstrong how he knew that humans were warned off the moon, something the Chinese and the Indians might soon find out. Armstrong answered, “I can’t go into details except to say that their ships were far superior to ours, both in size and technology. Boy were they big, and menacing. There was no question of a space station.” He was likely referring to a possible moon base even though there are numerous reports of UFOs buzzing, and caught on camera, at the International Space Station.

Although the story never made it into the American press, Soviet scientists were heavily invested in covering it, with one scientist revealing that Buzz Aldrin took color film of the UFOs from inside the lunar module and continued filming them after he and Armstrong went outside. Years later, Armstrong confirmed that this story was true, but that he couldn’t talk about it because the CIA wanted the story covered up.

In 1971, still in Richard Nixon’s first term, astronauts on Apollo 15 had a stunning conversation with NASA mission control about artifacts they discovered on the lunar surface, particularly tracks that they said could only be described as artificial.

Astronaut Irwin: Tracks here as we go down the slope.

Cap com: Just follow the tracks, huh?

Irwin: We know that’s a fairly good run. We’re bearing 320, hitting 350 on rage for 413 … I can’t get over those lineations, that layering on Mount Hadley.

Scott: I can’t either. That’s really spectacular.

Irwin: They sure look beautiful.

Scott: Talk about organization.

Irwin: That’s the most organized structure I’ve ever seen.

Scott: It’s so uniform in width.

Irwin: Nothing we’ve seen before this has shown such uniform thickness from the top of the tracks to the bottom.
