V iolet was able to get a flight out that night. Once her plane touched down she headed straight for Rachel’s apartment. Violet knocked on her door and when she answered the door, Violet burst into tears. Rachel closed the door behind them and walked Violet over to the sofa and allowed her to cry as she held her. There was no need for Rachel to say I told you so because the pain she was feeling was punishment enough. Eventually she stopped crying and sat up.

“So, by your reaction, I guess you went through with it?” Rachel asked.

“I didn’t want to be alone tonight. Can I stay here with you?” Violet asked.

“You can stay here as long as you want.” Rachel said.

“Come on sweetie, take a shower and I will get the guest room ready for you.”

Violet walked toward the bathroom.

“Everything you need is in there,” Rachel said.

Violet allowed the sprays of water to coat her body as she began to cry. She cried not only for the death of her father, but the death of her mother and the loss of her virginity. Violet’s body slid to the floor of the shower and she pulled her knees to her chest and allowed herself to cry openly.

Violet slipped into the warm robe and sat next to Rachel and she explained to her what happened the entire evening. “I’m never going back to that house again. I don't want to see any of them ever again,” she said as the tears continued to roll down her face.

“You don't have to go back there,” Rachel said. “Give yourself time to decide what you want to do next,” Rachel watched as her friend fall asleep from exhaustion.
