When you notice a magic moment of a favorite brand, think about what’s engaging you in that moment. For example, is it a funny word on a packaging slip or invoice, clever on-hold music, or a different kind of message when your computer has timed out? Why did this gesture stand out? Chances are these are moments that other brands missed and this brand has taken the opportunity to turn that moment into an emotional connection with a unique TWIST.
Another example of a magic moment you can TWIST with is the Amazon smile box (the simple brown box with the big smile on the outside). This is an excellent example because it underscores that the best moment in the Amazon process is when you actually receive what you ordered and it is acknowledging and sharing in your happiness. The smile also begins under the A in Amazon and ends at the Z. This visual TWIST underscores the “A to Z” nature of Amazon that has such a wide variety of goods and services.
Candice designed an app that targeted moms with children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and created a yearly calendar with time and stress saving tips around each important holiday and milestones in their children’s year (i.e., back to school, holiday breaks) to offer 360-degree support. This was a unique TWIST because it was outside of the gamification learning app, but at the same time fit great with her brand and the core brand promise of helping moms to help their kids thrive and “Own Proud.” When you buy the app you also get access to a community that provides quick, healthy recipes; tips from moms and experts to help your child with school; inspiration and support; and stories of proud moments from other families. This 360-degree approach to ADHD support is a unique TWIST in this market, which usually is very sub-specified. This gains her not only users of the app, but loyal fans who will recommend it to other families.
