Basically, broker training is not compulsory, and no one will ever ask if you attended a particular class or training program. However, you will benefit immensely by attending a training course that will inform, educate, and familiarize you with the workings, duties, responsibilities, and official roles of a transport broker. Training is highly recommended so you can also learn other tricks and tips that will enable you to identify the leading carriers and shippers you should partner with. It also gives you exactly what you need to know in terms of the legal requirements of this business. It is important to stay at right side of the law at all times: this begins by having the business registered in your state then later on, seeks a federal license from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Receiving the necessary training and education will not hurt as it will help you become a more competent practitioner and will have the edge over all others who chose not to attend any training at all.

To get started, there are some free broker training courses that you can find online. However, these are very basic. Comprehensive freight brokerage courses can range from $150 to over $3,000, depending on the length and complexity of the course. Some training courses, mostly those at the high end, may even offer to link you with a freight brokerage so that you gain hands-on experience.
