Chapter 3 Sara was wearing a huge grin. Lara picked up the picture, smiled and passed it on to Kara. Kara also looked over the picture and then turned to her father. Dan Fine waited, letting each of the girls absorb what he had just told them. He let them sit, allowing the suspense to build, allowing everything to soak in. He could see they were all about to scream at him to reveal everything when he finally spoke. "Before I tell you anything else. I want the pictures. I want them off the Internet, I want all the copies. Hell! I want that fucking camera," Dan said looking at Lara. Lara looked devastated. "This will not happen again! Get the camera! Get the pictures! Then we'll talk," he said quietly. He then stood up and turned his back on his daughters. "You may keep the picture of your mother. I'll be in my office when you're ready," he yelled back to them as he left the kitchen. The three girls sat there, stunned, their jaws on the table. Dan smiled to himself as he shut the door to his office, sat down behind his desk, leaned back in his chair and put his feet up on the edge of his desk. He knew the girls would be here within a few minutes. The only reason it would take that long is that Kara and Sara would have to convince Lara to give up her beloved digital camera, a camera Dan had bought her for Christmas two years before. She loved that camera. Dan knew she would give it up though to see her mother. The girls had sainted their mother. It was the old phrase "Absence makes the heart grow fonder," taken to the extreme. They didn't think their mother could do anything wrong. Meanwhile, they blamed the parent who had raised them, Dan, for every bad thing that had happened to them in their short lives, including their mother leaving. It was less than ten minutes before there was a light knock on the door. "Enter!" Dan yelled. The door opened and the three girls walked in. Each girl was carrying an item. Sara was in the lead and carried their mother's picture pressed firmly to her chest. Lara, had the camera bag slung over her shoulder and Kara had her small laptop computer tucked under her arm. "Sit down," Dan ordered and waved them to the couch near his desk. Dan was sure that the three girls did not realize how the power in the house had just shifted. At worst, it would be a draw. At best, Dan had just gained everything back. The girls all sat down on the couch. It was rather snug. "Sara, place the picture on the table," Dan ordered. Sara did so without hesitation. "Lara, put the camera at your feet. Kara, you do the same, place the computer on the table or at your feet." The two girls looked at each other for a second and then did as they were asked.
