A Break from Dialogue
What is being written simply appears on the computer screen. Writing is happening but there is no writer. There is an appearance of choice, but Life is unfolding just as it is… in this everlasting Now. Plans for tomorrow, next month, next year appear in thought, become attached with desires, fears and the little self. They stick like goosegrass… little hooks enmeshing more thoughts and emotions, loading the mind, burdening consciousness. Consciousness is naturally spacious and clear, but the screen of awareness can so soon become full of ‘mind-stuff’. It’s all unreal, of course, and makes no impact or mark on the screen whose nature is Emptiness. It is Emptiness that draws us… Oblivion that we seek… but in seeking something else or ‘other’ we miss the open secret: that Emptiness just means letting go. Letting go of the little separate self with all its imagined troubles and plans. Seeing through the illusion of separateness, and relaxing into the embrace of empty Fullness… our true home.
Normally the mind will be asking, “How to let go?” Will be wanting more answers and explanations. More books, more teachers, more satsangs and retreats… one more push and we’ll get there! Where? We look in the wrong direction… outside of us. If we turn round 180 degrees and look within, there’ll be nowhere to go, and nothing to do… because there’s no one to do it! There is just this… perfect – just how it should be – beyond thought, beyond self. And so the show goes on (or so it seems) – appearances arise within awareness… incessantly unfolding a world in the Now.
Church bells, birdsong, bees humming, dogs barking… hearing is happening.
Tea and toast… tasting is happening.
Roses and chocolate cake… smelling is happening.
The squiggles on the screen… seeing is happening.
The warmth of the sun… the softness of the cushion in my back… sensing and touching are happening.
Thoughts, ideas, words and associated emotions are arising… mental activity is happening.
Everything happening Now… to no one. Everything arising Now… in the stillness and infinite space of Awareness.
Just this aliveness; this Being.
Just this Joy and Love unfolding playfully; purposelessly, with no agenda or aim, except to express Life.
Before thought… before labelling and judging… before all the activity of the little ‘me’… there’s just This.
